About The Artist:
Grant Thomas was born and raised north of Toronto, Canada. He has been interested in Art since the mid-seventies. Fueled by his high school art classes and a love of drawing, he entered Sheridan College’s internationally-reknowned Illustration course. Majoring – and receiving an honours diploma – in Technical Illustration, Grant’s style became more polished and detailed and he began to specialize in automobile and architectural renderings.
In 1989 Grant began his graphics career at a major telecommunications company. However, he continued to show great interest in drawing cars. For six years he also freelanced for a Canadian motorsport company. These two factors caused the Macintosh computer to become an additional medium in Grant’s portfolio of work.
In the past years several of Grant’s pieces were selected as finalists for the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada’s “Art of the Automobile” presentation at the International Car Show in Toronto and across the nation. He has won Honourable Mention in 2001 for “Quattro Cilindri” – a watercolour of a four cylinder Ferrari engine and in 2003 Best Computer Graphic for a rendering of Ferrari’s F1 car entered in Monza 2001.
Through his website Grant has sold works around the globe, from California to Australia. Presently, Grant continues to forward his computer design skills and at the same time continues to concentrate on Automotive Art. He has recently expanded his repertory to include more abstracted and “painterly” styles. Ferraris – both their road cars and Formula One racers – remain his favourite subjects.
