Kelly Newcomb
About The Artist:
I am often asked, “Why does a lady paint vintage cars?”
I cant help but paint what I am surrounded with, and Elkhart Lake Wisconsin is filled with them. The vintage cars have the most beautiful round bodies which bend light, capture the surroundings….I find them very sensual.
Kelly Newcomb has been painting Elkhart Lake for years, capturing moments in time, and retaining in each painting, her love of her home. After being commissioned to open an vintage car show at the Botham Vineyards, a new love emerged, a reponse to ‘why men love thier cars’. Her transparent watercolors began to develop, the question was answered.
“I am amazed at the bodies of vintage cars. I so often want to run my hands over every curve. The bodies reflect on them ever inch of their surrounding without a break in the image. The eye never stops, it is never broken by any sharp angles.”
Kelly often snickers at the comments of others. She is mistaken for a male artist. Her response back….”Oh yea, I see what you guys see in your cars now…and they are beautiful!!”
