About The Artist:
I’ll be honest, I’ve always felt a little weird when I have to talk about myself. I always think it comes out too egotistical or something so I apologize if it comes out that way.
When I was little (Like three or four) there were garages out back of the apartment building we lived in. My dad managed the building so he let a friend of his occupy one of the bays with his 55 Chevy. That car ruined, um, changed my life forever! It was robin egg blue with a black primered hood and it was loud. I loved that car; to this day I still have a jones for 55s. (If memory serves me correctly I can also thank that guy for most of the Hot Wheels collection I had at the time.) I used to check out any hot rod magazines that were lying around and drool over the pictures of hot rods, muscle cars, and yes even the wacky show rods that were big at the time. If it had wheels I thought it was cool. Model cars lined the shelves in my room, Hot Wheels posters hung on the walls, and there was orange track and toy cars everywhere. If I heard a set of pipes I’d whip around trying to find out where the sound came from. Yeah, I was hooked as a wee lad and still am to this day.
I’ve done a lot of different types of art, for the longest time I did horror art and had a pretty cool underground following (Thanks to you all!). The thing is I got bored with it and needed to have fun again doing art. Back in ‘98 I did a Cartoon hot rod piece and had a blast doing it and things just snow balled from there. Now that’s mostly what I do, sure it may be cartoony and yes it can be silly but I have a blast doing it. To me that’s the most important aspect of doing art, you have to have fun. Yes I take it seriously but at the same time it is what it is. Maybe you’ll dig it, maybe you won’t. Either way, I’m still having a good time. To me drawing cars again is getting back to basics, it’s what I started drawing when I was a kid. Sure there are artistic liberties taken and I admit some things couldn’t be built but that’s part of the fun.
I still collect toy cars, (I’m a Muscle Machines addict!) and now I have even more fun at cruises and car shows because now I can take my daughter and see her get as excited as I was when I was little. I drive the wife nuts with my truck because I can’t leave it alone. (I had a 29 “A” but had to sell it to fix the truck, gotta get to work ya know. I’m looking for a new toy now! I heard about a model “T” that’s rotting away across town.)
I’m proud of what I’ve done with art but the one thing I’m proud of most is my family. My wife Candy is the most beautiful woman on the planet in my eyes and she’s just as brilliant. She has never understood my compulsion for cars or art but that’s ok, she doesn’t have to. My daughter Damiana is just as special, she’s my little hot rod princess and she’s my pride and joy. I owe them everything.
Hope you like what you see; feel free to drop me a line any time! (kustomkreepies@yahoo.com)
Gotta boogie!
