Dan Wheldon 1978-2011 – CarArt.us

As a fellow Brit and follower of his career, I was shocked and saddened to hear about Dan Wheldon on Sunday. It was a stark reminder of the risks in motor racing, where speeds can reach 250 mph.

This year’s victory made a total of 6 at the ‘Brickyard’ by Dan and 3 other great British drivers: Jimmy Clark (1965), Graham Hill (1966), and Dario Franchitti (2007, 2010.)

“In this area – especially St. Petersburg – he was very much appreciated, a local hero, and loved living here. He would stroll the streets with his family and chat with anyone who cared to chat with him. He was a very sincere, polite, and clean individual.”
