Indianapolis 500 – 100 Years
The Indianapolis 500 Mile Race turns 100 on Memorial Day weekend!
May 30th 1911: Ray Harroun won the inaugural Indy 500 at the ‘Brickyard’ with an average speed of 74.6 mph.
May 29th 2011: 33 of the world’s best drivers compete in Indy cars that reach speeds of 250 mph — faster than F1.
Legends of Indy
Colin Carter, the renowned motorsports artist is introducing Legends of Indy – a series of artworks to commemorate this anniversary. Four years in the making, they feature all-time greats like Foyt, Unser, Mears, Clark, Rutherford, Andretti, Jones, and new sensation Danica Patrick.
18 pieces have been created so far of this unparalleled collection of Indy car art. It includes special tributes to the Unser boys and the only four-time winners (Foyt, Unser and Mears), which were commissioned by the Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance in Florida, where Colin was the guest artist, raising $66,000 for charity. Nine original oil paintings still available, five of which are signed by the driver portrayed!
Each artwork comes in a choice of prints: a 36×48 giclee on canvas (250 edition) and a 23×31 lithograph (850 edition), all signed by the artist. Excitingly, many of the litho series are also autographed by the driver. See other artworks in our Indy Cars Gallery.
