John Smither
About The Artist:
John is a native of Kingston who began his artistic career as a Technical Illustrator in 1974 with CNCP Telecommunications Training Department in Toronto. In 1981 he relocated to Edmonton, Alberta where he expanded his portfolio to include the illustrations of both military and commercial aircraft.
In 1984 John returned to Kingston upon accepting the position of Art Department Head at the former internationally renowned corporation of UTDC, presently operating under the name of Bombardier Light Transit Division.
As a result of a cooperative venture between UTDC and the Limestone District School Board in 1990 John was offered a permanent position with the Board of Education. This position was the first of its kind in Ontario initiating and developing a specialized program in the discipline of technical and commercial illustration providing students with a preview of the opportunities. available in art’s community and preparing them for a wide variety of post secondary educational opportunities.
John is one of only three Ontario Secondary School teachers who has been appointed to sit on the Secondary School Advisory Panel for Art Fundamentals at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario.
John uses a wide variety of mediums including; oils, acrylics and water colours to showcase his highly detailed interpretations of everything from wild life to highly detailed renderings of automobiles.
John does not limited his artistic ventures to his professional career but has expanded them to both painting and performing as a musician in a local group, The Firm.
John is an avid outdoors man who enjoys fly fishing, golfing and the occasional venture out on the Atlantic ocean from North Lake, PEI with the hopes of landing one of their world famous Blue Fin Tuna.
